Govt to enter liquor retail business

The Government was thinking of appointing the retired employees to run the liquor shops.  Each shop would have three staff members.  Notification was issued for taking shops on rent.

It may be mentioned that in the auctions conducted few months back for opening of liquor shops throughout the State, there was lack of response in the Capital and some other places. Even when notification for opening of the shops was issued for the second time, there was no response from dealers in some areas. Apparently this has forced the Government to enter the liquor retail business and to open shops on its own.

The liquor scam that came to light last year in which the involvement of  some of the political leaders, Excise and police officials and liquor mafia was  alleged, ha
d obviously stopped some of the shop aspirants to back out.

Ndtv survey on TDP

The survey said that if Lok Sabha elections are held now, the YSRCP would hag 21 seats, the Congress nine, TRS 10, while the TDP and MIM would get only the remaining two seats.

To the common man, who is fully aware of the present political situation in the State, the survey has not come either as a surprise or a shock. But, the TDP leaders were clearly perturbed over the outcome of the Survey, as is evident from the way the party leaders reacted to it. TDP leaders Revanth Reddy and Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, raised a tirade at the NDTV, saying that it buried the journalistic ethics. They alleged that the YSRCP had paid Rs.ten crore to NDTV and got the survey conducted in its favour. They also contended that a many surveys conducted earlier have proved wrong. They added that they would complain to the Editors’ Guild and NBA on the NDTV survey.

TDP irked by ndtv survey

The party was divided on regional lines, as in the case of the Congress, with its leaders of Telangana demanding separate State and those of Seemandhra preferring United Andhra Pradesh. Added to this, the rift between Nara and Nandamuri families was coming to the fore now and then, adding to the woes of Chandrababu Naidu. Jaganmohan Reddy floating the YSRCP had also added to the problems of the TDP, with some of
its leaders jumping to that party and some more were sitting on the fence.

The NDTV survey, published in a section of the press also, revealed  that the YSRCP leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who is in jail quite for some months now, is the first choice of the voters as the ‘Best Chief Minister’, if elections were held as of now. As many as 48 per cent of the voters who participated in the survey, have voted for Jagan, while only 18 per cent of them gave their option to TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, 17 per cent for the TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, 11 per cent for the present Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and six per cent for Rajya Sabha member Chiranjeevi. The survey predicted that the Congress party would be wiped out in the State.

TDP leader Nama Nageswara Rao alleged that Jana Reddy

In a statement here on Monday, TDP leader Nama Nageswara Rao alleged that Jana Reddy was harassing his political opponents in the district. He also alleged that Jana Reddy was planning to physically eliminate all his opponents in the district. He warned that if the false cases registered against Chinnapu Reddy were not immediately withdrawn, a delegation of TDP leaders would meet the Governor and lodge a complaint against Jana Reddy for his “atrocities”. He also said that people of the district would teach the minister a lesson if he fails to mend his ways and desist from harassing his opponents.

High Command has given a free hand to the Chief Minister

It is reported that on Dharmana’s issue, the High Command has given a free hand to the Chief Minister  to decide for himself whether to accept the resignation or not. The fate of other four Ministers—Sabita Indra Reddy, Geetha Reddy, Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Kanna Lakshminarayana—who have also received notices from the Supreme Court, was also linked to that of Dharmana issue.

The Chief Minister was unable to decide on Dharmana’s resignation, though the latter had submitted it ten days back, in view of the repercussions it might have on the Congress party and the earlier Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy regime.

Senior Ministers K Jana Reddy and Dr D L Ravindra Reddy having lengthy discussions with the Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy on Saturday, also added fuel to the speculation on the change of guard and other issues.

Political circles, however, feel that some clear decisions might emerge when the Chief Minister and PCC chief hold discussions with the High Command leaders on August 27, on many matters, including the contentious  Telangana State issue, which is pending for a long time.

Botsa: Nail-biting Suspense Continues

hief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC Chief Botcha Satyanarayana maintaining total silence on their return from Delhi on Saturday, on the talks they had with the party high command in the last two days, is the cause for the suspense and speculation. When the two leaders left for Delhi three days back, there was wide range of speculation on the possibility of  the High Command shifting the PCC chief, both the Chief Minister and the PCC chief, and on the choice for their successors, and on the fate of Dharmana Prasada Rao, who has submitted his resignation for Minister post following inclusion of his name in the charge-sheet filed by the CBI in the Vanpic lands issue.

It may be recalled that some of the senior leaders of the party had called on Sonia Gandhi, ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit to Delhi, and complained about the functioning of Kiran Kumar Reddy and pleaded for his removal from the ‘gaddi’, while some of the supporters of the Chief Minister were reported to have pleaded for removal of Botcha from PCC leadership, in view of the differences between the two –Kiran and Botcha.  But, senior leaders point out that the High Command had already given clear indications that there was no question of changing the Chief Minister and he would complete the term.  Many in the ruling party are of the view that changing the Chief Minister now would surely send wrong signals to the people, apart from giving scope for the Opposition to criticize the party and its leadership, and making it an election issue.

Chiru wants to become central minister

Chiranjeevi doesn’t fit in this arrangement, as he doesn’t want Kiran to be replaced. It is being said that Chiru is not also interested in immediately stepping into the shoes of either Kiran or Botsa. He wants to take an active part in the electioneering in 2014 and become the Chief Minister then. In the mean time, he would be satisfied with a central m
inister’s post, say sources.

Exercise continuing

Still, the exercise over reinvigorating the party and the administration in AP is continuing in Delhi. Congress high command is likely to apply its mind to the issue seriously, after the close of the current session of the Parliament. The general thinking in the party leadership is that should there be replacement of the Chief Minister, the post should go to a leader of Telangana. In that case, the PCC post would go to a leader of Andhra region. If the PCC chief were to be chosen from Telangana, Kiran might be continued.

Chiranjeevi wants Bothsa To be replaced

State political scene is taking interesting turns by the day. Mega Star-turned politician Chiranjeevi who was initially close to the PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana because of caste equations, has now become close to the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and is supporting his efforts for the replacement of Botsa. He has in this effort, the blessings of his daughter’s father-in-law L V Shiva Prasad.

Telangana issue is not hampering the investments into the state

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday said that the Telangana issue is not hampering the investments into the state.

His statement came during an interaction with captains of industry at the southern regional meeting of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here.

Kcr making false by BJP

Ridiculing the statement of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao that Telangana would be formed within three months, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit has alleged that the TRS Chief was deceiving people of the region by making "false claims".

BJP state spokesperson NVSS Prabhakar said, "The party will withdraw its candidate from Parakal Assembly constituency if TRS Chief makes All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Sonia Gandhi say that Telangana state would be formed within three months."

By-poll for the Parakal Assembly constituency in Warangal district would be along with 17 other seats (in the Andhra region) on June 12.

Telangana meeting started

TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao would be holding a three-day meeting with party MLAs and other leaders later this month to chalk out a strategy on Telangana issue.

Rao would organise a joint meeting of party's polit bureau, MLAs, district unit presidents and other party functionaries on August 24, 25 and 26, the party said in a release here today.

The TRS chief has been maintaining that he was assured by the "Central leaders in Delhi" on formation of Telangana once the Vice-Presidential election (held on August 7) is over.

Parties On Polavaram

The rusted board in place is perhaps symbolic of the money that has already been spent, reportedly to construct canals, but nothing has come of it, with vociferous objections raised by Telangana politicians and environmental concerns raised by Orissa and Chhattisgarh.

"The motive is very clear. That the dam is built at the cost of submergence of areas in Telangana only to ensure that the Godavari water is taken away permanently from the people of Telangana in the event of formation of Telangana," said K T Rama Rao, TRS leader.

The late YS Rajasekhara Reddy had lobbied for national project status for this, so that the Centre pays upto 90 per cent of the cost. His son Jagan, realising it is an emotive issue, undertook a four-day padyatra to demand implementation of the project.

"By diverting 80 TMC of Godavari water from here to Krishna, we can reduce the burden on Nagarajunasagar and Srisailam dams, by which the Telangana and Rayalaseema regions will also get benefitted," said Jaganmohan Reddy, YSR's son.

Andhra War is on War

here is a deceptive calm over the proposed 17000-crore rupees Polavaram irrigation project area in Andhra Pradesh. This is in sharp contrast to the high-decibel political voices for and against the project that has been in the pipeline for 60 years now.

Nageswara Rao, like many other farmers here has already lost his 2-acre land because of the digging work undertaken.

"Downstream all fields will get water. Water will be stored here and farmers will be benefited by this. They will divert water into fields instead of it going into the sea, said Nageswara Rao, a farmer.

Ap and orissa in polavaram issue

The environmental clearance was given already. Now the environment ministry has raised some queries because some ministers from Orissa met the minister and the government has written to us. We will reply to them suitably," said K Rosaiah, Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh.

The Polavaram project has been the Congress government's pet dream since the days of YSR, and its efforts all this while have been to persuade the Centre to grant it national status so that the Centre takes care of the bulk of the funding.

Polavaram Dam Conflicts between andhra pradesh and orissa

A letter sent by the environment ministry to the Andhra Pradesh government, asking how it is going ahead with construction of the Polavaram project without additional environment clearances for construction of embankments is being seen in Orissa as a victory for the Naveen Patnaik government. Orissa has opposed the project, saying it will affect its areas.

"Public hearing must take place properly and the concerns of the local people, who are mainly tribal people - the compensation for them, their rehabilitation," said Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister, Orissa.

The Andhra Pradesh government which got the environment clearance in 2005 is not amused, and says it will satisfy the concerns of the Centre.

Polavaram Is Essential For telangana

He also asserted that the design of the project would not be changed as demanded by TRS and others as over Rs. 4,000 crore have already been spent on it.

The government was keen on giving the best relief and rehabilitation package to the affected people, he said.

Conceived in the pre-Independence era, the Polavaram project is said to have the potential to bring over four lakh hectares of land under cultivation and generate 1,000 mw of hydel power.

Kiran Reddy was speaking to reporters on the last day of his three-day 'Indiramma Bata' (on the path of Indiramma) mass-contact programme in Khammam district.

Noting that the government was spending about Rs. 2,600 crore on various welfare schemes, he said the programme was aimed at ascertaining whether the benefits effectively reached the targeted beneficiaries.

Polavaram project will immensely benefit For Telangana

The proposed Polavaram irrigation project on Godavari River in coastal Andhra Pradesh would immensely benefit the state as it would save the water currently going into the sea, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said in Khammam today.

Strongly defending the project, which is opposed by Telangana supporters on the ground that it would adversely affect the region, Kiran Reddy said the project would help not just coastal districts but other regions as well.

Referring to the objections raised by neighbouring Orissa and Chattisgarh to the project, Kiran Reddy said the government was holding talks with the two states to make them agree to the multi-purpose project.

implementing MGNREGS in AP

Free power is being provided for 32 lakh agricultural electricity connections, he said.

Highlighting the importance given for women welfare, he said interest-free loans are being provided upto an amount of Rs. five lakh.

The government is filling about 1.20 lakh vacancies in various government departments, which is unprecedented in state's history.

Under the ambitious 'Rajiv Yuvakiranalu' employment scheme, the government has provided jobs to about two lakh youth and the aim now is to give employment to 15 lakh people in the next three years, the chief minister said.

The state government has completed 14 of the 86 irrigation projects contemplated under the ambitious 'Jalayagnam' (irrigation mission), he said.

Under the 'Rajiv Arogya Sri' health scheme, the government is providing free medical services to all poor white ration card holders. Medical treatment was provided to over 15 lakh poor people by spending Rs. 4,500 crore.

Hyderabad will host a mega convention 'International Biodiversity Conference' in October this year, which will be attended by representatives from 193 countries and eight to 10 Heads of States, he said.

AP has set an example in implementing MGNREGS

"This year, we have provided 31 crore work days by an allocation of Rs. 2,900 crore," he said in his Independence Day address after inspecting the ceremonial march past at the Parade Grounds here.

The government is requesting the Centre to apply the scheme to agriculture, handloom and if possible handicrafts sectors too, he said.

The implementation of MGNREGS in Andhra Pradesh has received appreciation from leaders like Union Minister Jairam Ramesh earlier.

Listing out other welfare and development programmes being implemented, Reddy said the government is making efforts to take the state on the path of progress.

Describing his government as "farmer-friendly", he said a scheme of government pa
ying the interest on the croploan upto Rs. one lakh has been taken up for the benefit of about one crore farmers.

major role in Andhra Pradesh politics

In case the PCC chief is removed, it is highly likely that he will be replaced by a leader from the Kapu community as caste plays a major role in Andhra Pradesh politics.

Reddys have always stood behind the Congress but majority of them have shifted loyalties to Jagan Reddy, whose father YS Rajasekhara Reddy ruled Andhra Pradesh without any rebellion from inside the party.

The chief minister hopes the Congress high command would guide him appropriately on the whole issue as the political implications, even within the party, could be heavy.

backdrop of speculation that the party is trying to end factionalism

As Mr Reddy arrived in the capital, party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Chiranjeevi met Congress President Sonia Gandhi for over 30 minutes and confabulated over the political situation in the state.

Chiranjeevi, who belongs to the influential Kapu community, is of the view that Reddys, who supported the Congress for years have migrated with Jagan Reddy along with Dalits, and that only his community was supporting the party.

He is believed to have told the Congress chief that leaders from Kapu community should be given preference in party and the government. Chiranjeevi refused to talk about the meeting.

However, Kiran Reddy could not get an audience from Ms Gandhi till late in the night but held discussions with General Secretary in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad and senior ministers AK Antony and P Chidambaram

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister in Delhi, advice on key issues

Battling crisis after crisis, Kiran Reddy now wants the party top brass to break the impasse on issues like the resignation of roads and buildings minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, named in the charge sheet in the Jagan case, and the fate of other ministers under scanner.

His visit comes in the backdrop of speculation that the party is tryi
ng to end factionalism in the government and state unit by removing PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana, who is a known adversary of the chief minister.

Andhra Pradesh CM meets Sonia to discuss Jagan case fallout

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday discussed with Congress President Sonia Gandhi the issue of resignation of Buildings minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, who has been chargesheeted in the disproportionate assets case against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

During the meeting, Mr Reddy is understood to have sought the High Command's advice on dealing with the issue as Mr Rao's resignation has been pending with him. Mr Rao submitted his resignation after CBI chargesheeted him in the Jagan case.

The Chief Minister is also believed to have discussed the fate of other ministers who are under the CBI scanner in the case.

Good news for Telangana?

New Delhi: Will there be a consensus today on the Telangana issue? With the Centre still struggling to finalise its strategy to solve the Telangana statehood crisis, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said on Saturday that the consultation process would end on Monday.

"The consultation process within the Congress is still going on. I think we will be able to complete the process by Monday," Mr Mukherjee said. He, however, refused to set any deadline for the resolution of the matter.

The pressure is now on the Congress for a time bound announcement of its position.
