Govt to enter liquor retail business

The Government was thinking of appointing the retired employees to run the liquor shops.  Each shop would have three staff members.  Notification was issued for taking shops on rent.

It may be mentioned that in the auctions conducted few months back for opening of liquor shops throughout the State, there was lack of response in the Capital and some other places. Even when notification for opening of the shops was issued for the second time, there was no response from dealers in some areas. Apparently this has forced the Government to enter the liquor retail business and to open shops on its own.

The liquor scam that came to light last year in which the involvement of  some of the political leaders, Excise and police officials and liquor mafia was  alleged, ha
d obviously stopped some of the shop aspirants to back out.
